I hung out with April last night at her brother’s house in Montgomery. We ended up sitting around the stereo sampling her music collection. She’s got great taste in music. Unfortunately, the only music I had with me of my own was what I have on my company laptop… which is random shit I’ve downloaded, mostly for others. Embarrassing. Anyway, this prompted me to take a listen to my collection, and today I found some music I forgot I had… Beck, Ben Folds, The Eels, and some NIN.
If you have good taste in music, there are a few albums and songs you just have to try… Alot of Beck’s old stuff is REALLY good… Cyanide Breathmint and He’s a Mighty Good Leader off of the One Foot In the Grave CD are both excellent. The entire Sea Change album is wonderful… incredible, really.
By the way, if you’re still listening to music through the desktop speakers that came with your computer or a cheap pair of headphones, STOP. Please. Go out and buy a pair of real headphones. If you want something not-too-expensive, do what I did and get a pair of Grado SR 60′s. These are the best inexpensive headphones ever made. Period. You can pick up a pair for around $69… If you want something ultra-cheap, go with the Sennheiser HD 201. They can be found for $20, and they sure beat the hell out of everything else out there under $60. If you have a little more money to spend, check out the Sennheiser HD 555… $150 and worth every penny. Want to spend more? Sennheiser HD 580 for $200. The 580 is the best entry point for high end listening. And if you just want to skip to the best headphone ever made, get the Sennheiser HD 650 for $500. It doesn’t get any better than that for under two grand. Once you try out a pair of Grados or a high end pair of Sennheisers, you will never go back to what you had before. Whatever you do, please, for your own sake, don’t use cheap headphones.
Anyway… check out that Beck I mentioned. It’s awesome.
